You make a transition or cut something with a filter, then bring the cutoff all the way down. A regular filter can still colour the sound.

You try automating bypass. Sometimes it clicks. Other times the plugin smooths the bypass and you get an unnatural volume dip. Then you start moving the bypass point around, trying to find where the switch stops being audible. What should take a few seconds becomes a longer process and pulls you out of the flow.

At 0% Amount, the filter is fully off and the signal passes unchanged.

When you automate Amount up, it moves from off through a very short shelf filter into filtering.

If you automate Amount straight from 0% to 40%, the move is smoothed through that same shelf stage, so it does not click and still sounds musical. Going back to 0% works the same way.

Keep it on the master, drum groups, synth groups, or wherever you need it. At 0% Amount, it does nothing. When you need a filter sweep, it is already there.
